Hmmm..

Don't you think there is a possibility.. Even faint.. That the message
doesn't actually come from the person that shows in the origin field ? In
which case I don't think it would be appropriate to remove this/these
user(s).. Right ?

Furthermore, the 1st instance of this spam attempt [1] seems [2] already to
come from a different originator - which would tend to support the idea that
a third party (possibly unaware of the fact) is involved.

--Ivan

[1] I say "attempt" as I consider people floating around these groups to be
hopefully slightly less guilable than the average John Doe going head first
in those kinds of scams..

[2] As always, e-mail origin addresses should always be considered as
non-trustworthy. This information has about as much value as the return
address written on the back of a snail-mailed item (that is : NONE). At this
point, and to my knowledge, only Public Key Infrastructure signing
technology can convey this sort of trust (PGP, S/MIME - you name it).. [3]

[3] Because this is not signed, you just cannot guarantee it's me who sent
it... because the conveyed message is more important than the originator, I
just stopped bothering attempting to fix my PGP installation (which
conflicts with Outlook XP S/MIME implementation - and S/MIME just doesn't
work with yahoo groups because yahoo groups modifies message bodies on the
fly which breaks pkcs7 signing).

Hello from Gregg C Levine
As always, Vanya, you make a good point. And I did consider it. His
first attempt carried with it, a plea that the moderator allow the
message. Well if we did have one of those, I think he would not have.
And in checking I found that it did come from the same source.

The same stupid message was sent to the H390-DOSVS group. Unless the
ID was co-opted by someone else, then there is something strange going
on. Be that as it may, I simply removed the ID. I did not do anything
else. If he wants back, he'll be welcome to try again. I might allow
him back. But he will have to present a good reason.

We now return you to our regularly scheduled list discussions, and
arguments.
