[H390-MVS] ISPF V2.0 Production Announcement

All,

ISPF Production Version 2.0 is now available.

Everyone who received a previous version or a beta version of 2.0 will
automatically receive the production version in a separate email in
the next few days.

Highlights of Version 2.0 -

1) ISPF Table support for all 21 table service calls from TBADD to
TBVCLEAR, as well as TBDISPL. Both local and shared tables are
supported.

2) ISPCLIB is now fully supported, Clists no longer have to be in the
CMDPROC file to be available to ISPF.

3) The CONTROL SAVE, CONTROL RESTORE, and CONTROL LINE service calls
are now supported.

4) ISPF will now share variables with TSO Clist processing. This means
that if a Clist invokes an ISPF service such as DISPLAY, all the
variables in the Clist are available to ISPF processing as ISPF
implicit variables. In addition, Clist variables may be updated by the
ISPF service, and all implicit variables defined in the ISPF service
will automatically be available to the Clist as Clist variables after
the ISPF service ends.

5) The ISPF variable ZISPFRC and return codes from ISPF services are
now supported via the TSO Clist variables &LASTCC and MAXCC.

6) Many other minor fixes.

Once again I am indebted to Greg Price for all the changes he made to
Review to accommodate ISPF, for the IKJCT441 interface he created to
allow ISPF Clist variable support, and for answering my many, many
3270 and other questions. I also wish to thank Larry Belmontes for all
the time and effort he spent testing Version 2.0, especially all the
Table services.

The product has now grown to 52,710 lines of code of which over 51,000
are assembler source and macros, the rest being panels and messages.

Let me know if you are interested, and I will send it to you.

I've been out of the loop for quite a while but would now like to install H390-MVS with all of the latest features.  What's the best site to start with these days?

I don't quite understand this email.  Is it to say ISPF is available to run on Hercules with no cost?

You almost got it ... it runs on MVS 3.8j which runs on Hercules. It's
free because the owner is giving it for free. It's Wally's ISPF not IBM's.

I don't quite understand this email. Is it to say ISPF is available to
run on Hercules with no cost?

Wally,
I am very interested in your ISPF software.

For some reason Wally's ISPF is not shipped
as part of TK4-, but you can get a free copy
of that from Wally and install it yourself. It's
from Wally, not IBM, and perfectly legal.

Note that if you don't mind bootlegging,
Hercules supports running z/OS if you
can find the ADCD on the internet. (That's
all I know, don't ask me about this)

Also be aware that if you wish to go the
non-bootleg route and want to break the
16 MiB limit of MVS 3.8j for some reason,
there is MVS/380 available.

I haven't heard of IBM harassing hobbyists for
using names like "ISPF". It would be amusing
if they ever did though. There is a similar
issue with MVS/380 - MVS is a trademark of
IBM. Even if IBM somehow manages to get
the product renamed on sourceforge, I can't
see how they're going to stop me from using
the name on forums.

I am interested in the changes to support programmatic access to CLIST
variables. I wrote code back in Ye Olde Days to do that and am curious to see
the differences.

Was this a MVS mod to provide a service or was the SNT directly accessed?

A usermod downloadable from

http://www.prycroft6.com.au/vs2mods/index.html#zp60038

was written to add the IKJCT441 routine to MVS 3.8 and this is used by
Wally's ISPF, though it also tolerates the absence of the usermod with a
corresponding slight reduction in capability on such systems - at least,
that's my understanding.

Cheers,

Thanks. PTF 14 is also involved.

I, of course, did not do it as a mod but I had it packaged in several
products. TSO/E 3.0 made things easier.

And, of course, I had to back-end the EXEC processor in order to insert my new
system variables.

I very rarely bother responding to challenge/response systems,
especially those from irresponsible companies.

I am interested in getting a copy of the ISPF 2.0 distribution material for Turnkey MVS 3.8j. Please let me know how to procure a copy and got on the mailing list for updates and information.

Thanks!

Wally,

Please send me a copy of ISPF. I've been working with Hercules, MVS and VM under them since September of last year and this would be a nice addition to MVS.

If I remember correctly, the declarations need to be 8 bytes long
.
CONTROL DC CL8'CONTROL'
ERRORS DC CL8'ERRORS'
RETURN DC CL8'RETURN'
For compatibility with IBM's ISPF this should not be necessary. According to Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF) Dialog Management
Services (SC34-2088), page 108:
"• Service name or keyword: A left-justified character string that
must be coded as shown in the description of the particular service.
The string may be up to eight characters long. It need not be
delimited by a trailing blank."

Charley,

The quote you reference refers to the service name or a single parameter. The example below

illustrates the requirements to define a list of variables. Note that 3 arrays must be passed - a names array, a format array, and a length array. Each variable has a corresponding 8-byte format and a 4 byte binary length.

VDEFINE does not expect a pointer for the length LIST has been specified. >Change the DC to A(X'80000000'+8).
Doesn't work. All items in the parameter list must be pointers to the values, not the values themselves. In this case, the 5th parameter in the call to ISPLINK for VDEFINE must be the address of a fullword containing binary 8, not just 8.
